Abstract
In this chapter we analyze the challenges of using Educational Robotics in Primary Schools. The current (and future) needs of our labor market in the R+D+I sector explain how Science & technology Education has become in the last years one of the main priorities within the European Society and Administration. These needs have been reflected in Universities and Secondary schools and currently have started to be present in Primary Schools. Nevertheless there are several aspects to deal with like the integration of the curriculum, the methodology, the classroom materials or teacher’s training and support. In this work we analyze the most important aspects in the implementation of the Educational Robotics in schools and a case study is presented. We focus on several indicators (age, gender, motivation, methodology and learning outcomes) in three different contexts, in and out of the school. The first one is the Science & Robotics tournament First Lego League (FLL) where young people from schools, companies or clubs participate. The second one is the summer course framework taking place at the university, where the first week teachers are trained in Educational Robotics, and the second week they take part in a “practicum” with primary students from 5th & 6th grade, while for the kids is like a Tech Camp. Finally the third context is a network of schools (about 100), where they work Educational Robotics from several perspectives.
